Production and encoding handled by partners we've audited, tested and managed for years — never a random factory off a marketplace.

NFC packaging questions, answered.
Everything brands, product managers and packaging buyers ask before placing an order — chips, compatibility, MOQs, turnaround and how tagwrld compares to NFC chip suppliers.
What is an NFC hangtag and how does it work?
An NFC hangtag is a product hangtag with an embedded NFC (Near Field Communication) chip — a small, passive antenna that activates when a smartphone is held within a few centimeters. Each tagwrld NFC hangtag is encoded with a unique URL that opens instantly in the customer's mobile browser, with no app download required. NFC works on every modern iPhone (iPhone 7 and newer) and every modern Android device. Brands use NFC hangtags on apparel, footwear, accessories and consumer goods to deliver product authentication, digital product passports, loyalty rewards, video content, care instructions and post-purchase engagement.
How is tagwrld different from NFC chip suppliers like NXP, tagstand, Seritag or ShopNFC?
Companies like NXP manufacture the raw NFC chips (NTAG 213, NTAG 215, NTAG 216, NTAG 424 DNA), and resellers like tagstand, Seritag and ShopNFC sell pre-encoded blank NFC stickers, cards and inlays — you still have to design your packaging, source a printer, integrate the chip, encode URLs, run QA and arrange logistics yourself. tagwrld is a full-service NFC packaging manufacturer: we design and print the physical hangtag, insert, card or badge, integrate and encode the NFC chip, QA every tag, and ship the finished product to your warehouse. One partner, one timeline, one invoice — instead of coordinating a chip vendor, a printer, an encoding service and a freight forwarder.
Which NFC chip does tagwrld use, and is it compatible with iPhone and Android?
tagwrld uses NXP NTAG chips by default — primarily NTAG 213 for general marketing use and NTAG 424 DNA when cryptographic product authentication is required. NTAG chips are the industry standard and are fully compatible with native NFC reading on iPhone (iOS 11+, iPhone 7 and newer) and every modern Android device. Tags open a URL directly in Safari or Chrome with no app required. We can also source alternative chipsets (ICODE, MIFARE, custom secure elements) on request for specialized use cases.
Are tagwrld NFC tags re-encodable, or are they locked to one URL?
By default, our NFC tags ship re-encodable, so you can update the destination URL, swap landing pages between campaigns, or repurpose inventory without reordering hardware. For authentication and anti-counterfeit use cases, we can lock tags or deploy NTAG 424 DNA chips with cryptographic signatures that rotate per tap, making each scan verifiable and impossible to clone.
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for custom NFC hangtags, inserts, cards and badges?
Standard MOQ is 10,000 units per SKU for custom-printed NFC hangtags, packaging inserts, trading cards and event badges. This minimum lets us run production economically through our vetted manufacturing partners while keeping per-unit pricing competitive. For pilot programs, sample runs or specialty formats, contact sales — we can sometimes accommodate smaller pilot quantities ahead of a full production order.
How long does it take to produce and ship custom NFC packaging?
tagwrld guarantees a 21-day maximum turnaround from approved artwork to delivered product — including printing, NFC chip integration, encoding, QA testing and shipping. Quote responses are returned within one business day. By comparison, sourcing chips from a supplier, finding a separate printer and coordinating encoding yourself typically takes 8–12 weeks.
What can customers do when they tap an NFC tag from tagwrld?
Each tap opens a mobile web experience you control: product authentication and digital product passport (DPP), exclusive video and behind-the-scenes content, loyalty enrollment and rewards, limited-edition drops and unlockables, care and sizing instructions, warranty registration, review prompts and first-party data capture (email, SMS opt-in, account creation). Because the destination is a standard URL, you can change the experience over time without re-shipping product.
Does tagwrld provide the landing page software, or do I bring my own?
Either works. You can point tagwrld-encoded NFC tags at any URL you control — your existing Shopify product page, a Klaviyo signup, a custom microsite, a digital product passport platform or a brand experience tool. We also offer a hosted landing page service for brands that want a turnkey solution without building their own. Because tags are re-encodable, you can switch platforms later without replacing hardware.
Can NFC hangtags authenticate luxury, streetwear or collectible products?
Yes. For authentication-critical categories — luxury apparel, sneakers, streetwear, trading cards, art prints and limited collectibles — tagwrld uses NTAG 424 DNA chips with SUN (Secure Unique NFC) authentication. Every tap generates a cryptographic signature that proves the physical tag is genuine and was not cloned. This is significantly stronger than QR codes or basic NFC URL tags, which can be copied.
Do NFC hangtags work without Wi-Fi or a mobile app?
The NFC chip itself is passive and requires no battery, Wi-Fi or app — the customer's phone powers the chip on tap and reads the encoded URL. To load the destination landing page, the phone needs an internet connection (cellular or Wi-Fi), the same as opening any website. No app download, no account, no setup — the customer taps and the page opens in their default browser.
Is NFC better than a QR code for product packaging?
NFC and QR codes serve similar goals but behave very differently in the real world. NFC is a single tap with no camera framing, no app, no visible code disrupting your packaging design, and supports cryptographic authentication. QR codes are cheaper to print but require the customer to open a camera, frame the code in good lighting and tap a notification — and they're trivial to copy and counterfeit. For premium packaging, authentication and post-purchase engagement where conversion matters, NFC consistently outperforms QR.
Does tagwrld ship internationally?
Yes. tagwrld manages door-to-door global shipping including freight, customs documentation and duties guidance, with delivery to brand warehouses, 3PLs and fulfillment centers worldwide. We've shipped NFC packaging for brands across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
